Tea Party

Tea Party

The Tea Party claims it wants accountability by both parties, but they ran on the Republican ticket.

They call themselves grassroots, but they are organized by Americans for Prosperity and Freedom Works.

David Koch of Koch Industries (largest privately-held energy company in the country) was a co-founder of CSE, the predecessor of FreedomWorks.  They gave over $12M to CSE between 1985 and 2002.

Dick Armey, the Chairman of FreedomWorks and co-chairman of the Alliance for Retirement Prosperity (they want to privatize Social Security,) is a lifelong Republican who served as Majority Leader of the House of Representatives from 1995 to 2002

Koch Industries also funds Americans for Prosperity, which was also co-founded by David Koch.

Tea Party Patriots were initially organized by Freedomworks.

The Tea Party Express sponsors of the tour were Our Country Deserves Better (a political action committee formed to oppose Obama) and Americans for Prosperity.

The Tea Party has also gotten substantial support in the form of promotion from Fox News Channel and its talk show hosts, including Glenn Beck.

Instead of just disagreeing with President Obama's policies, they have chosen to demonize him by saying he is an anti-American, Socialist, Muslim, Nazi racist who was not born in America.

Many don't believe in global warming or evolution, think it's OK to incite violence if you don't get your way, and think it's OK to carry guns at political rallies.

They are very angry, but as Lindsey Graham says they have no coherent vision for how to run the country.
